GAITS

WALK There are four hoofbeats:
the horse moves it's legs
in turn - near foreleg,
then off hindleg, then off
foreleg and near hindleg.

 

TROT There are two hoofbeats:
The legs move in pairs;
near-fore and off hind,
then near hind and off fore.

 

CANTER There are three beats:
when the off fore leads, the horse
moves it's near hind and then off
hind and near fore, then the off fore
begins the lead again.

 

GALLOP There are four hoofbeats:
the legs move quickly one after the other:
near hind, off hind, near fore and off fore.
