Mill Creek Church of Christ Internet Page

Latest news as of March 20, 2001. Mill Creek is working in concert with the West Side church of Christ on two main projects: Lads to Leaders and the Jail Ministry at the Pope County Detention Center.

With Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes, Mill Creek provides a forum or practicing place on the first Sunday night of each month for young men particularly who wish to practice leading singing or giving a talk or reading a Bible scripture. We have in the past also had simultaneous women-only services so that the girls can have similar opportunities to hone leadership skills for those occasions in which their leadership will be needed.

Mill Creek has joined hands with West Side in helping to provide a preacher for the mission work at the Pope County jail. They have also provided World Bible School materials for the inmates. How to get to the Mill Creek church building. The Mill Creek Church of Christ is located about seven miles west of Russellville, Arkansas, just off Interstate 40. The building where we worship can best be reached by taking the London exit (I-40 exit 74)and then Arkansas 333 .3 miles south into the small town of London. At the T ofArkansas 333 and U. S. 64, turn left (east) and continue eastward 2.8 milesuntil reaching Mill Creek Road. Turn right (north) on Mill Creek road and go under the I-40 bridges spanning Mill Creek and continue around the bend of the reservoir for .8 miles. The Mill Creek church building is a whiteframe building on the right as you begin going up the hill.

Ministers and congregation. The Mill Creek Church of Christ is served by two ministers: Brother Sid Womack, deacon from the West Side Church of Christ in Russellville, and Brother Jack Barber, also a deacon for West Side. Each minister preaches about half of the Sundays of the month. Mill Creek members conduct their Wednesday night services.

What to expect.Beliefs are conventional for Churches of Christ. Scripture is taken as the final if not only proof for all things. Sermons and classes areare heavily scripture-based and effort is made to find a "Thus saiththe Lord" for all decisions. The fact that song services are donea cappella or "with voices" and without instruments, following the patternof New Testament worship, is further indicative of our desire to "speak whereBible speaks, and be silent where the Bible is silent." Sunday School is at 10: 00 A. M. and the corporate worship service begins at about 10: 55. Sunday night services are at 5: 00 during the winter and 6: 00 when daylight savings time is not in effect. Wednesday night services are at7: 00 P. M.

Core beliefs. We believe that a person becomes a Christian when in faith he repents ofhis life of sin, confesses Jesus as Lord, and is baptized for the remission of his sins (Acts 16: 31; Mark 16: 16; Matthew 28: 19, 20; Acts 2: 37-47; I Peter 3: 21). Given the teachings of Acts 2: 41 and 47, by our studies we find that those who obey the Gospel and become Christians are automatically added to the church of Christ; no separate action need betaken, and can be taken, to add one to a church. No one votes a person into the church which Christ bought with his own life (Ephesians 5: 25-31).

We find in the scriptures that once one becomes a Christian, he is cleansedcontinually while walking in the light ( I John 1: 7 - 2: 5). Being savedis not an "in, now back out, now back in" kind of thing as the Christianis forgiven, then occasionally sins, then is forgiven. But there couldbe a point at which the Christian is no longer walking in the light buthas fallen back into sin (II Peter the whole second chapter) and could belost. When the Christian commits a sin, he should repent and pray (Acts 8:22) for forgiveness.

We find that Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people (see the teachings of Matthew the 25th chapter) and that judgement will be withoutwarning and will be swift and unavoidable (II Peter 3: 8-13). We lead carefullives in view of these teachings.
