INSTRUCTIONS
ON THE USE OF THE
1830 & 1840 CENSUS REPORTS
They are listed by the head of the family.
Other family members are listed only by enumeration of age groups. The first set of numbers are for the male members of the family.
The second set of numbers are for the females.
Each digit stands for a person or persons in an age bracket as follows:
(starting from the left and going to the right)
The head of the household is also included in their age bracket.
EXAMPLE:

1st Set of Numbers/Males:
3100100000000 is broken down to these age groups:
3 - 3 people are under 5 years of age.
1 - one person is at least 5 yrs., but not yet 10 yrs.
0 - between 10 yr. to 14 years.
0 - between 15 to 19 years.
1 - one person between 20 and 29 years.
0 - between 30 - 39.
0 - between 40 - 49.
0 - between 50 - 59.
0 - between 60 - 69.
0 - between 70 - 79.
0 - between 80 - 89.
0 - between 90 - 99.
0 - 100 years old or older.
2nd Set of Number/Females:
0000100000000
The "5th" digit indicates that there is "1" (one) woman living in the household that is between 20 and 29 years old. There are no other females living in this home.
