
Condrey B. Swindell, 81, of Rogers, father of Benny Swindell of Centerton,
formerly of Clarksville, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1999, at St. Mary Hospital
in Rogers.
He was a native of Granby, Mo., son of the late Walter and Rhoda Bradbury
Swindell, and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Rogers where he served
as a deacon. He owned and operated the Swindell Feed Mill in Centerton
during the 1950s-60s, the Gravette Western Auto Store during the 1960s-70s,
and the Benton County Real Estate of Gravette during the 1970s-80s.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Leota Mason Swindell; one other son,
Dr. William G. Swindell of Rogers; two sisters, Mildred Wasson of Tulsa,
Okla., and Lou Ann Carver of Adair, Okla.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter;
one niece; and one nephew.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Temple Baptist Church in
Rogers with Rev. Ron Fields officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Ceme-
tery in Hiawassi under the direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Service
of Bentonville.
Memorials may be made to the Temple Baptist Church in Rogers or the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Hiawassi.
Mrs. Golda Faye Vire, 62, of Ozark died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at her
home.
She was a Baptist and daughter of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Otha
Emaline Pipkins Wyers.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon H. Vire; two daughters and one
son-in-law, Kara and Bill Dye of Pipe Creek, Texas, and Judy Goekler of
Southlake, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Ellen Vire of Water
Valley, Miss.; two sisters, Betty Jo Miller of Little Rock and Patty Wyers
of Ozark; three brothers, Daniel Wyers of Jasper, Arnold Wyers of Akron,
Ohio, and Ralph Wyers of Ozark; and two sisters-in-law, Aileen Terry of
Clarksville and Jewell Pack of Springdale.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel
with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Patterson Springs Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Earl Wyers, Clifford Wyers, Billy Wyers, Gene
Vire, Dallas Vire, and Charles Lee Reed.
Honorary pallbearers were Leon Boen, Raymond Wyers, Denton Vire, Charles Clyde Hammonds, and Delmer Hignite.
Gary I. Whitten, 48, of Clarksville died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at his
home.
He was a native of Roby, Texas, former resident of Crossett, son of
the late Iva Whitten, and retired Georgia Pacific Paper Company employee.
He is survived by three daughters, Lara Shook of Little Rock, Nikki
Kelley of Russellville, and Samantha Whitten of Clarksville; mother, Dovie
Carter of Crossett; one sister, Ann Bonnette of Monroe, La.; two brothers,
Jerry Whitten of Bastrop, La., and Jimi Whitten of Leavenworth, Kan.; and
one grandchild, Hannah Kelley of Russellville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Jones Funeral Home
Chapel in Crossett. Burial will be in
Crossroads Cemetery at Crossett with local arrangements under the direction
of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Mrs. Inez N. Willey, 84, of Waterford, Mich., formerly of Johnson County,
died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at her home.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, daughter of the late Frank
T. and Mary E. Breedlove Moore, and widow of Walter Bean and Suel E. Willey.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Morris of Waterford, Mich.;
two sons, Norman F. Bean of Mountain Home and Jimmy W. Bean of Fayetteville;
one sister, Ila Mae Selby of Richmond, Calif.; one brother, Ancil Moore
of Crockett, Calif.; ten grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel
with Mitchel Bean officiating. Burial was in Mt. Airy Cemetery.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Lee B. Brooks, 81, of Fort Smith, father of Bernadine England of Clarksville,
died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999.
He was a retired welder for ESCO in Portland, Ore., member of the Methodist
Church and a veteran of World War II where he received the Purple Heart
for wounds sustained on July 4, 1994, in St. Clair France during the Normany
Campaign. He also received the EAME Theatre ribbon, Good Conduct ribbon,
World War II Victory ribbon and the American Theatre ribbon. He was preceded
in death by one daughter, Eula Stanford.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lennie O. Brooks; three other daughters,
Cheryl Borts of Beaverton, Ore., Chris Sandblast of Woodland, Wash., and
Shirley Benning of Fort Smith; two sons, Lee B. Brooks Jr. of LaCenter,
Wash., and Dennis Breeling of Portland, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; and numerous
great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Deschutes Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Bend, Ore.
Mrs. Lois Louise Catlett, 61, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Alva Share
Medical Center in Alva, Okla.
She was a native of Burlington, Okla., daughter of the late Cleo (Houch)
and Phil Albert Corr, and attended Burlington and Alva (Oklahoma) School
systems. She was a former resident of Cherokee, Okla., the widow of Glenn
Cellan, Charlie Clinton (Chalk) Sanders, and Lee Catlett, and was preceded
in death by a son, David Justin Cellan, and a sister, Phyllis Cleta Wood
of Clarksville.
She is survived by one son, Jimmy Dean Cellan of Wichita, Kan.; one
sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jean and Bill Dotterer of Cherokee, Okla.;
one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Romona Corr of Freedom, Okla.;
three half-sisters and spouses, LyCinda and Glendale Clark of Lake Dallas,
Texas, Merry Carol and Jim Reneau of Caldwell, Kan., and Vicki and Louie
Neely of Arapaho, Okla.; three half-brothers and spouses, Phillip and Debbie
Corr of Perry, Okla., Delmar and Robin Corr of Bryan, Texas, and Forrest
and Linda Corr of Alva, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Wharton Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Mel Brown, pastor of Alva Bible Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be at Alva Municipal Cemetery in Alva, Okla.
Active pallbearers will be Glendale Clark, Delmar Corr, Forrest Corr,
Larry Corr, Phillip Corr, and Rocky Gibson.
Honorary pallbearer will be Ralph Corr.
Funeral for Roma Ross McGinty, 77, of Rose Bud, formerly of Clarksville,
who died Feb. 5, 1999, at Searcy Hospital, was at 9:30 a.m Tuesday, Feb.
9, at the First Baptist Church of Rose Bud with Rev. Bruce Brown officiating.
Burial was in the Stillwell Cemetery north of Clarksville under the
direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home of Searcy.
Pallbearers were Darryl Adams, Lee Young, Scott Wilson, Charlie Horrine,
Lynn Clendon, and Rudy Porter.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, forestry equipment operator for
the state of California, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mildred
McGinty, and one son, David Ross McGinty.
Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Ann; one son, Gerald R. of Shirley;
one sister, Carrie Bratcher of Porterville, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
