
Mrs. Avis Johnson Hyden, 78, of Clarksville died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999,
at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Arch and Clara
Hinson Pitts, member of Union Grove Baptist Church, retired employee of
Hanford and Priebe Processing plants, and was preceded in death by one
son, Gerald Johnson.
She is survived by one son and two daughters-in-law, Tommy and Delilah
Johnson of Clarksville and Nancy Johnson of Newcastle, Okla.; one stepson,
Archie Johnson of Clarksville; one sister, Audrey Carroll of Laverne, Calif.;
five grandchildren, Reg Johnson of Clarksville, Scott Johnson, Mark Johnson
and Leann Gentry, all of Newcastle, Okla., and Lance Johnson of Odessa,
Texas; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at East Mount Zion Trinity
Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Oden and Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.
Burial was in East Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke
Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Reg Johnson, Scott Johnson, Mark Johnson, Lance Johnson, Dave Gentry, and John Buffington.
Mrs. Alice Evans Taylor, 95, of Clarksville died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999,
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Heavener, Okla., daughter of the late Robert M.
and Valeria Roberson Evans, lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church,
and a 50-year member of the Ludwig Extension Homemakers Club.
She is survived by two sons, Troy Taylor and Forrest Taylor, both of
Clarksville; two grandchildren, Mike Taylor of Morrilton and Mark Taylor
of Clarksville; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with
Rev. Burley King officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Phil Taylor, Aubrey Yount, Ewell Sexton, Norman Sexton, Alva Taylor, and Dan Leeds.
James Emmett Trantham, 82, of Olympia, Wash., died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999,
in St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash.
He was a former resident of Lamar, native of Hattieville, son of the
late Taylor and Beulah Edwards Trantham, former resident of Humptulips,
Wash., member of the Evergreen State Dahlia Association, former employee
of Polson Log Company and Mayr Brothers Log Company in the Grays Harbor
area, owner and operator of Humptulips Grocery and Union 76 until his retirement
in 1979, and was actively involved in the restoring of old tractors, working
with wood crafts and the Puyallup Fair. He was preceded in death by one
brother, William, and one sister, Marjorie.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Fae Brim Trantham; one son, Kenneth
of Boise, Idaho; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bill; granddaughter,
Malena of Olympia, Wash.; one brother and sister-in-law, Boyce and Grace
Trantham and Hazel Trantham, all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Helen
Holloway of Anaheim, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, in Hoquiam, Wash., with Betty
Miller officiating. Burial was in the Humptulips Cemetery.

Mrs. Lela M. Mayo, 76, of Lockhart, Texas, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999,
at Seaton E. B. Davis Hospital in Luling, Texas.
She was a former resident of the Flat Rock area, member of Victory Temple
Church of Hamilton, Texas, and was preceded in death by her parents, Tyson
Elbert and Minnie P. Hollis, and Eddie Ada Hollis, who reared her; two
sisters; two brothers; and one great-grandchild, Patrick Andrew Herrin,
grandson of Mike Herrin of Lamar.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Mayo; six children, Lisa Barger
of Lockhart, Texas, Mike Herrin and wife, Glinda, of Lamar, Vernon Kott
and wife, Kay, of Weatherford, Texas, Randall Springfield and wife, Charlotte,
of Hollis, Okla., Brenda Love of Bryan, Texas, and Sandra Herrin of Austin,
Texas; three sisters, Bethel Morse of London, and Rozelle Franks and Marie
Anthony, both of Lockhart, Texas; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial was Oct. 4 at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Texas, under the
direction of Riley Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were James Lancaster, Glenn Morse, Bobby Morse, Elbert
Franks, Johnny Slough, and Mark Machemer Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were all grandsons and two nephews.
