Betty L. Pettigrew, 76, of Ratcliff died June 28, 2004.
She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Caulksville,
daughter of the late William Harrison and Bonnie P. Samuels Wages, and
was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruby Basham, Evelyn Rice,
Jewelene Wages and Edna Prescott, and three brothers, Jim, Jack and
Cecil Wages.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Richard Pettigrew; one
daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Jamie Short of Ratcliff; one sister
and brother-in-law, Billie and John Arthur of Clarksville; one brother,
Denver Wages of Hartman; and four grandchildren, Teigan Neumeier,
Kristin Rieder, Nicholas Rieder and Alexandria Short, all of Ratcliff.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in Caulksville with burial in Caulksville Cemetery under the
direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
Brother Henry Fuhrmann, O.S.B., 84, of Subiaco Abbey died Tuesday, July
6, 2004.
He was born Edward Fuhrmann in Lindsay, Texas, the first of 11 children
of Willie N. and Margaret Orth Fuhrmann, attended St. Peter's School in
Lindsay, Texas, and was a farmer prior to coming to Subiaco Abbey in
1942, where he professed his monastic vows on Sept. 8, 1943, and
received the religious name of Henry. His monastic life was spent at
Subiaco, where he worked as a farmer and a craftsman in the carpenter
shop, with the exception of three months when he was at Santa Family
Monastery in Belize, Central America, where he continued to assist with
farm and construction work.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister,
Anna Stoffels, and one brother, William.
He is survived by eight siblings, Father Nicholas of Subiaco Abbey,
Joe, Tony and Aloys Fuhrmann of Lindsay, Texas, Ottilia Wachsman of
Wichita Falls, Texas, and Rose Stoffels, Theresa Huchton and Mickey
Haverkamp of Muenster, Texas.
He was a son of the late Elihu and Bethanie Francis McAllister Jones,
member of Mt. Home Freewill Baptist Church, retired Army sergeant and
Berkley College employee, and chaplain of the Disabled American
Veterans. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Lynn Jones;
four sisters, Sarah Townsend, Leona Pitts, Beulah Tumbleson, and Nana
Lou Hodges; and four brothers, Granville Jones, Elmer Jones, Columbus
Jones, and Leonard Jones.
Survivors include one son, Michael Kent Jones of California; three
sisters, Eula Owen and Iva Rushing, both of Clarksville, and Earlene
Davis of Russellville; one brother, Elihu Jones Jr. of Clarksville; and
one grandchild, Claire Carlson Jones of California.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15, at Roller-Cox Chapel with
Rev. Amos Pledger and Rev. Claude Froggatt officiating. Burial with
military honors will be at Minnow Creek Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Steve Jones, Shannon Owen, Waylon Thomson,
Les Jones, Fred Proctor, and Delane Davis.
Honorary pallbearers will be William Cagle, Basil Harderson, and Al
Dierene.
Michael G. Gunn, 61, of Clarksville died Friday, July 9, 2004, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Chicago, Ill., son of the late Gene Gunn, 1962
graduate of Hayti High School, 1968 graduate of the University of the
Ozarks and received a specialist degree from the University of Arkansas
in 1981. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Bruegman Gunn,
and oldest brother, Tyrone Gunn.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Jennifer and Tim
Bellamy of Paris and Cyndy Gunn of Washington; one son and
daughter-in-law, Mark and Sarah Gunn of El Paso, Texas; mother,
Margaret Pardon Gunn of Hayti, Mo.; two sisters, Sharon Snow and Betty
Hampton of French Village, Mo.; one brother, Bobby Gunn of Clarksville;
and four grandchildren, Sydney and Maitlyn Bellamy and Preston and
Dawson Gunn.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, July 12, at Raymond Munger Memorial
Chapel on the campus of the University of the Ozarks.
Burial was in Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral
Home of Paris.
Marie Ross Handley, 83, of Clarksville died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Ozark, daughter of the late Tobe and Flora Parker
Ross, member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, former cafeteria
manager at Clarksville Schools for 21 years, former member of Spadra
Quilting Club and a beautician.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Handley; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Carla and Jesse Donaldson and Lisa and Mike Whorton, all
of Clarksville; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Judy Handley
and Mark and Marci Handley, all of Clarksville, and Robert and Mary
Handley of Waldron; two brothers, Bud Ross and Bennie Ross, both of
Clarksville; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Landmark Missionary
Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.
Burial will be at West Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of
Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Robert (Bill) Watson, 72, of Lamar died Monday, July 12, 2004, at AMI
St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
He was an engineer, building supervisor, member of the National Coon
Hunters Association and the Church of the Nazarene, son of the late
Charles Graham and Ada Posey Watson, and was preceded in death by one
son, William Dale Watson; two sisters, Ethel Jackson and Sarah Lou
Lewey; and three brothers, Willard Watson, Doug Watson, and Jim Watson.
Survivors include his widow, Suzanne Watson; one daughter and
son-in-law, Sharon Kay and Rev. Charles Elliott of Carthage, Mo.; one
stepdaughter, Kim Taylor and husband, Brad, of Havana; two stepsons,
James Tapp III of Odessa, Texas, and Jason Tapp and wife, Shirley, of
Muskogee, Okla.; one sister, Gloria McNeely of Lamar; five brothers,
Paul Ralph Watson and Ray Felton Watson, both of Holden, Mo., Eugene
Howard Watson of Nowell, Mo., Kenneth Watson of London, and Phil Watson
of Clarksville; three grandchildren, Dena Watson, Brandie Sneed and
Alana Elliott; one great-grandchild, Kaylee Reed; and four
stepgrandchildren, Tori Taylor of Havana, Robert and Steven Tapp of
Odessa, Texas, and Clara Tapp of Muskogee, Okla.

burial to follow at Russell Cemetery.

Syble I. Lamb, 95, of Russellville, widow of Jesse E. Lamb, died
Monday, July 12, 2004, at Stella Manor Nursing Center.
She was born in the Pittsburg Community of Johnson County to the late
Marion and Dilla Taylor Wallace, was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Knoxville and was preceded in death by one brother, Glen
Wallace, and one sister, Bessie Wallace.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Virgil Higgs
of Russellville; one sister, Mildred Johnson of Huntington; one
sister-in-law, Ida Wallace of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren, Donna
Higgs of Russellville and Greg Higgs of St. Joseph, Mich.; three
great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Megan and Jake Higgs; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at the First Baptist
Church in Knoxville with Rev. Don R. Hankins officiating.
Burial will be in Lamar Cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral
Service of Russellville.

Clayborn, Ronald Zachary and James Mize.
Wanda Durning, 68, of Ozark, sister of Bea Nowotny of Lamar, died
Monday, July 5, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital.
She was a native of Low Gap, daughter of the late Charlie and Lena Belt
Waits, and member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Mack Durning; one daughter, Nina Lee of
Paris; four sons, Michael, Bobby, Danny and Todd Durning, all of Ozark;
two other sisters, Velma Easom of Ozark and Bessie Smith of Odessa,
Texas; four brothers, Billy and Jimmy Waits, both of Ozark, Monty Waits
of Fort Smith, and June Waits of Lenexa, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 8, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel
in Ozark with Rev. Coyce Couch officiating. Burial was at Belt Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Kiley, Joshua and Nicholas Durning, Dusty and
Shannon Lee and Justin Halmes.
