Gary Keith Hudson, 59, of Van Buren, formerly of Clarksville, died
Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a native of Clarksville, Baptist, 1962 graduate of Clarksville
High School, former member of the Clarksville National Guard Unit,
employee of Rheem Manufacturing in Fort Smith for 27 years, and was
preceded in death by his guardian parents, John and Lillian Wise.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Donna Newton Hudson; two
daughters, LeAnn Whitmire of Sheridan and Tammy Butler of Springdale;
mother-in-law, Beth Newton of Clarksville; and five grandchildren,
Adrianne Whitmire, Mallory Whitmire and Jenna Whitmire, all of
Sheridan, and Kennady Butler and Landon Butler, both of Springdale.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at the Stillwell Bible Baptist
Church with Rev. Bill Whitfield and Rev. Jim Goodman officiating.
Burial was in Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke
Funeral Home.
Harold D. Cater, 81, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at
his home.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Milton and Iva Jacobs
Cater, graduate of Clarksville High School, Navy veteran of World War
II, retired employee of General Motors Corporation, long-time member of
American Legion Bunch Walton Post No. 22, life-long member of the Coal
Hill VFW No. 8532, and an active member of Johnson Regional Medical
Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include his widow, Archie Martin Cater; two sisters and
brothers-in-law, Virginia and Robert Pryor of Festus, Mo., and Betty
Sue and Rev. Ben C. Anibal of Riverside, Calif.; and several nieces and
nephews.
James Horn, 78, of Clarksville died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Shoal Creek in Logan County, son of the late
Clarence Jefferson and Rena Dotson Horn, attended Paris High School,
graduate of Draughons School of Business at Little Rock, Navy veteran
of World War II, member and elder of Clarksville Church of Christ,
retired employee of Arkansas Forestry Commission, former member and
past president of Clarksville Rotary Club, and was preceded in death by
one brother, Morris Horn.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joann Robinson Horn; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Larry Taylor of Clarksville and
Carol and Guy Santucci of Newark; one son, John Horn of North Little
Rock; one brother and sister-in-law, J. C. and Myra Horn of Paris;
three grandchildren, Lara Shook of North Little Rock and Nikki Kelly
and Samantha Whitten, both of Russellville; and three
great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Church of Christ
in Clarksville with David Coats and Bobby Parks officiating.
Burial will be in Elizabeth Hall Cemetery at New Blaine under the
direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Larry Holman, Elvin Brown, James Risinger,
Don Sexton, John Chrisman, and Bob Frost.
erry P. Hicky, 82, of Forrest City, whose son, Bliss Yancey Hickey and
wife, Jan Newton Hicky, reside in Knoxville, died Sunday, Dec. 14,
2003, at the Baptist Hospital in Forrest City.
A native of Forrest City, he was a son of the late Phil and Gladys
Gilbeaux Hicky, made his home in Forrest City and Marianna where he was
a retired farmer and peach grower, member of St. Andrews Episcopal
Church in Marianna, served on the Vestry of the Church on several
occasions, and was a World War II veteran.
He was a charter member of the Marianna Country Club, graduate of the
New York Institute of Photography, served on the Board of Trustees at
the University of the South at Swanee and the Marianna School Board,
attended Louisiana State University where he was a member of the Sigma
Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was preceded in death by one brother,
James Hicky.
Survivors include his widow, Mary Bliss Yancey Hicky; one other son,
Preston Gray Hicky of Forrest City; five grandchildren, Christopher
Gray Hicky of California, Jennifer Hicky Collins and husband, Hank, of
Forrest City, Laura Yancey Hicky of Forrest City and Wynne, Mary
Elizabeth Hicky of Grapevine, Texas, and William Bliss Hicky of Oxford,
Miss.; and one great-grandchild, Molly Jamieson Collins of Forrest City.
Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at St. Andrews Episcopal
Church in Marianna. Arrangements were under the direction of Stevens
Funeral Home of Forrest City.
Graveside services and burial for Kenneth Harold Spainhour, 54, of
Tulsa, Okla., who died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Hillcrest Hospital
in Tulsa, Okla., were at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at the Union Grove
Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral
Home.
He was a son of the late Harold and Lillian Burrus Spainhour and a
collection agent.
Margaret Eloise Wyers Lyall, 69, of Cabot, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003,
at Conway.
A native of Mountain Top, she was a daughter of the late Gladys Pearl
(Parker) and Albert Wyers, and widow of Walter Lyall.
Survivors include one daughter, Carla Price of Cabot; one son, Darrell
Magby of Greenbrier; four brothers, Raymond Wyers of Clarksville,
Dwight Wyers of Stockton, Ohio, James Wyers of Coal Hill, and Bruce
Wyers of Copperas Cove, Texas; and three grandchildren, Darrell Magby
Jr., Brandy Price, and Denver Price.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel
in Ozark with burial in the Williams Cemetery.
Mary Lee Taylor, 94, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Clarksville, died
Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, in Knoxville, Tenn.
She was a daughter of the late Walter and Anna Lee Love, widow of Lee
Taylor, member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksville, and
was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben Love, Carl Love, and Ward
Love.
She is survived by one sister, Evelyn Hatcher of Knoxville, Tenn.; two
nephews, Dale Hatcher and Mark Hatcher; and one niece, Peggy Taylor
Willis of Clarksville.
Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at
the Mount Airy Cemetery with Rev. Steve Wingo officiating. Arrangements
are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Peggy Pauline Mock, 81, of Spring, Texas, died Dec. 2, 2003, at her
home.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late John Paul and
Mettie Mae Baskin Wells, widow of Merle E. Mock, Methodist, and was
preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Wells; and one great-grandson,
Nicholas J. Kubik.
Survivors include one son, Michael L. Mock Sr. of Maumelle; one
daughter, Paige A. Els of Springs, Texas; five grandchildren, Mary Beth
Mock Kubik of Deputy, Ind., Michael L. Mock Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., and
Angela Els, Rebekah Els, and Jessica Els, all of Grapeland, Texas;
three great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Paul Wells of Scranton;
and one sister, Bette Poynter of Dover.
A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Dover
United Methodist Church with Rev. Phillip C. Collie II officiating.
Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery in Warsaw, Ind.
Violet Knox Coppinger, 73, of Van Buren, formerly of Johnson County,
died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Crawford County Health Care.
She was a daughter of the late Troy and Dimie Davis Roberson, former
resident of Ozark, member of the First Assembly of God Church in Ozark
and was preceded in death by a husband, James Knox.
Survivors include her husband, Mac Coppinger; two sons, Paul Leland
Knox of Ozark and James Larry Knox of Warrenton, Mo.; one stepdaughter,
Teresa E. Brandes of Harrison; one stepson, Steven A. Coppinger of
Fayetteville; one sister, Velda Jo Randall of Ozark; eight
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel
in Ozark with Rev. Jim McElhaney officiating. Burial was in Highland
Cemetery.
Vera L. Key Hudson, 98, of Clarksville died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Denning, daughter of the late Walter and Emma Moore
Key, widow of Horace (Hickory) Hutson, a Methodist, member of Gold Star
Mothers, American Legion Auxiliary, and Coal Hill VFW Auxiliary, and
was preceded in death by three sons, Rickey Hutson, Charles Hutson, and
Norman Hutson; and four brothers, Ernest Key, T. E. Key, Edward Key,
and Earl Key.
Survivors include two daughters, Billie R. Standridge of Amarillo,
Texas, and Wanda Dailey of Clarksville; one brother, Clifton Key of
Lamar; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 17
great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at
Oakland Cemetery with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Arrangements are
under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
