Arnel Pitts, 80, of Clarksville died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Toy Pleasant and
Nettie Mae Henson Pitts, Navy veteran of World War II, member of the
Clarksville First Assembly of God Church, graduate of Central Bible
College in Springfield, Mo., and a retired minister,
Survivors include his widow, Doris Mauldin Pitts; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with
Rev. Terry Cameron officiating. Burial was in Stillwell Cemetery.
Derald Wayne Martz, 65, of Knoxville died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, in
Baptist Health Medical Center.
He was a native of Pierce, Neb., retired owner of Martz Tractor Company
at Knoxville, and was associated with Martz Transportation. He was
preceded in death by his father, Wayne Leonard Martz; one sister, Carol
Hurst; and one brother, Robert Martz.
Survivors are his widow, Judy Martz; one son and daughter-in-law,
Garrett and Brenda Martz of Knoxville; mother, Clara Martz of
Knoxville; two sisters, Claire Nathan of Castleberry, Fla., and Sharon
Haldeman of Hemet, Calif.; two brothers, Dennis Martz of Norfolk, Neb.,
and Vernon Martz of Hemet, Calif.; one granddaughter and spouse,
Brandye and Jimmy Eichelberger; and two great-grandchildren, Shelbi and
Hannah Eichelberger of Lamar.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Hardwicke Funeral
Chapel.
Diva Thompson Shrigley, 90, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, in Fayetteville.
She was a native of Scranton, widow of Dr. Guy Shrigley, and a
Presbyterian. She had lived in Clarksville for 80-plus years prior to
moving to Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville in 1999. While in
Clarksville she was active in Beta Sigma Phi, Presbyterian Church
Cirle, and the Supper Club.
Survivors include one son, James T. Shrigley of Fayetteville; two
grandchildren, Taylor Shrigley of Prairie Grove and Andrew Shrigley of
Tempe, Ariz.; one sister, Pauline Kraus of Jacksonville, Fla.; two
nieces, Paula Zammiello of Columbia, S. C., and Karen Anderson of
Crested Butte, Colo.; two nephews, Rev. Forrest Anderson of New
Braunfels, Texas, and Gary Kraus of Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Hardwicke Chapel with
Rev. Lance Jones officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Ernest Lee Bohannon, 59, of Coal Hill died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at
his home.
He was a timber employee and son of the late James Henry and Martha
Susan Case.
Survivors include his fiancee, Alice Vandenberg of Altus; one daughter,
Jennifer McCormick of Clarksville; one son, Teddy Ray Bohannon of
Ozone; three sisters, Margaret E. Vaught and Argie Beeman, both of
Clarksville, and Ruby Watson of Springdale; one brother, Odean Boen of
Lamar; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11,
at the Oark Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of
Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Gladys Sanders Buffington, 80, of Clarksville died Friday, Dec. 5,
2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Nashoba, Okla., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Levi
and Dora Kindrix Sanders, member of Trinity Chapel Pentecostal Church
of God, and was preceded in death by two husbands, William (Bill) Combs
and James Boyd Buffington; one son, James Allen Combs; one daughter,
Deloris Ann Forrester; one brother; and five sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Kaye Jones and Myrna Fitzgerald, both
of Clarksville; two sons, Timothy Edward Buffington of Pine Bluff and
Henry Adrain Combs of Alma; one sister, Ruby Lee Staggs of Mena; one
brother, Warren G. Sanders of Colorado; 23 grandchildren; and 19
great-grandchildren.

Herbert George Pentzer Sr., 85, of Franklin, Kan., brother of Gerald A.
Pentzer and Alice I. Auterson of Clarksville, died Friday, Dec. 5,
2003, in the Hospital District No. 1 in Girard, Kan.
A native of Chanute, Kan., he was a son of Herbert and Georgia Faye
Williamson Pentzer, former resident of Ponca City, Okla., where he
attended school, attended the Gross Community Church in Gross, Kan.,
was employed in Wichita, Kan., and California prior to moving to
Pittsburg, Kan., in 1975, where he was an employee of Midwest Minerals.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Herbert George Pentzer Jr. and
Robert Joseph Pentzer; one daughter, Christine Pentzer; and two
brothers, Robert E. Williamson and Roger Pentzer.
Survivors are four stepsons, George W. Kaemmerling Jr. of Pittsburg,
Kan., Ace Allen Kaemmerling of Liberal, Mo., Herman Gene Kaemmerling of
Lincoln, Neb., and Billy Joe Kaemmerling of Nebraska; three
stepdaughters, Sheral Elaine Vest of Fairplay, Mo., Darlene Maxine
Rothfuss of Pawnee Station, Kan., and Alice Kay Buschkamp of
Bloomfield, Neb.; one other sister, Aeileen Speer of Vian, Okla.; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Hilario Vazquez, 41, of Clarksville died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at
University Hospital South Texas Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
He was a native of Zacatecas, Mexico, member of Holy Redeemer Catholic
Church, and a cook.
Survivors include his widow, Dora Vazquez; four daughters, Rebecca
Vazquez, Maria A. Vazquez, Jacqueline Vazquez, and Giselle Vazquez, all
of Clarksville; four sons, Richard Vazquez, Hilario Vazquez Jr.,
Salvador Vazquez, and Jose I. Vazquez, all of Clarksville; parents,
Jose I. and Rebeca Vazquez of Mexico; four sisters; and six
grandchildren.

Jewell Mae Nuckolls, 85, of Ozark, twin sister of Ewell Magby of
Clarksville, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Fort Smith.
A native of Mountain Top, she was a daughter of the late William and
Lillie Umholtz Magby, widow of Owen (Bud) Nuckolls, and was preceded in
death by six brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Suter of Russellville; two
sons, Dennis Nuckolls of Dyer and Dellis Nuckolls of Ozark; two other
brothers, Carl Magby of Porum, Okla., and Hanford Magby of Anderson,
Ind.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ozark with Rev. Steve Sawrie officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove
Cemetery.

Anna Lorene Bean, 82, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at
Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ruth Angeline Carlisle
Yates, widow of Earl D. Bean, member of East Mount Zion Trinity Baptist
Church, and was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Don Bean; and one
granddaughter, Theresa Johanna Bean.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn L. and R. L.
Williams of Clarksville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Earl and
Karen Bean of Springdale and Gary O. and Donna Bean of Cottonwood,
Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Lillie M. Kelley, 72, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Southridge
Village Nursing and Rehab in Heber Springs.
She was a daughter of the late C. F. (Clarence) and May Horton Haggard
and had lived the past 20 years in the Clarksville area. She was
preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel F. Kelley; one son, Daniel Lee
Kelley of Heber Springs; three brothers, Henry Haggard of Walbash,
Ind., and Ray Haggard and Johnny Haggard, both of Heber Springs; and
seven sisters, Mary Bogard of Jonesboro, Ethel Stanturf of Fort Smith,
and Margie Akers, Dorothy Bufford, Lola Ward, Frankie Thomas and
Margaret Lawson, all of Heber Springs.

Lena Yearwood Morris, 83, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003,
at her home.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Robert and Ada
Howell Yearwood, widow of Charles E. Morris; graduate of Clarksville
High School, attended the University of the Ozarks, and was a member of
the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three nephews, Gary Bryant of Hot Springs Village,
John Sallis of Springdale, and Phillip Morris of Nashville, Tenn.;
three nieces, Betty Fiser of Memphis, Tenn., Vickie Frye of Michigan,
and Chris Yerby of Russellville; and several great-nieces and
great-nephews.

Lenora Nell Powell, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, S. C., mother of Pruellen
Patterson Pratt of Clarksville, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, in Mt.
Pleasant, S. C.
Born in North, S. C., she was a daughter of the late Otto Elmore and
Ella Mack Goodwin and formerly a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in
Orangeburg, S. C. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lila O'Neal
and Nomie Johnson and three brothers, Odell Goodwin, Coleman Grady
Goodwin, and Hartman Goodwin.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, George Coleman and
Dorothy Patterson of Lake Cormorant, Miss.; one other daughter and
son-in-law, Sandra (Patterson) and Carroll Furman (Pete) Wrenn of Isle
of Palms, S. C.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four
great-great-grandchildren.
Moody Donald Cromer Jr., 75, of Lamar died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moody
David (Gladys Pearson) Cromer Sr., graduate of Lamar High School,
served in the U. S. Army for one year, retired postal clerk at Lamar
Post Office, former employee of Clarksville Machine Works, former Farm
Bureau board member and Lamar School board director, member of the
Gideons and Lamar Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, trustee,
honorary charter member and church training director, and was preceded
in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Eula and Boyd Bacchus.
Survivors include his widow, Nina Opitz Cromer; one daughter and
son-in-law, Teresa and Ronnie Zachary of Lamar; one son and
daughter-in-law, Terry and Theresa Cromer of Lamar; two brothers-in-law
and spouses, Walter and Judy Opitz and Quinton and Dona Opitz, all of
Ft. Cobb, Okla.; two grandchildren, Chadd and Brandi Cromer of Lamar;
and several nieces and nephews.

Ova Huddleston, 78, of Paris, whose son and daughter-in-law, Ronald D.

She was a native of Indian Creek, former resident of Russellville,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Archie (Delia Ann Clayborn) Clayton
Sr., member of the First Assembly of God Church in Russellville,
retired employee of AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in
Russellville, and was preceded in death by an infant son, Boyd Wayne
Huddleston; and two brothers, Wylie Verlon Clayton and Kenneth Stanley
Clayton.
Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Jim
Collier of Dallas, Texas; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Rev.

auline Pannell Bishop, 83, of Clarksville died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003,
at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Garrett
and Melinda Josephine Turner Lingar, member of Landmark Missionary
Baptist Church, retired poulty processing plant employee, and was
preceded in death by two husbands, Clifford Pannell and Dick Bishop;
and one son, Melvin Pannell.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Delilah and Tommy
Johnson of Clarksville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and
Emilie Pannell and Roger and Sandra Pannell, all of Clarksville, and
James and Faye Pannell of Greenwood; ten grandchildren, Reg Johnson,
Stephen Pannell, and Erika Cooper, all of Clarksville, Lance Johnson of

Sandra Seeback Quinton, 53, of Redford, Mich., whose sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Sharon and John E. King Sr., reside in Clarksville,
died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in Farmington Hills, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and two sisters.
Other survivors include her husband of 29 years, Jack Quinton; one son
and daughter-in-law, Eric and Nancy; three stepgrandchildren; one
sister, Jean Marion of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
William H. (Bill) Bullard, 83, of Pine Bluff died Thursday, Nov. 13,
2003.
He was a native of Fort Smith, son of the late Richard and Minnie Lee
Grady Bullard, was reared and educated in Hartman, and served in the
United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in Alaska
on the Island of Attu. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1951 where he was
employed at the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a munition inspector for 30 years
prior to his retirement in 1986, was a member of the White Hall United
Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Disabled American
Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8277. He was preceded in
death by one brother, Eugene Bullard; and two sisters, Ruby Lundy and
Faye Sexton.
Survivors include his widow, Jimmie Lane Dollar Bullard; one son,
William Hugh Bullard Jr. of Redfield; two daughters, Victoria Lane
Mosley of Shreveport, La., and Stephanie Lee Besaw of North Little
Rock; one sister, Maize Sparks of Westminster, Calif.; and five
grandsons.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at the White Hall United
Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Walker, pastor, officiating. Burial was
in White Hall.
Pallbearers were Brad Hartin, Doug Allred, Daniel Nestoriek, Jimmy
McDaniel, Jon Valentine, Charles Francis, Walter Lawson, and Charles
Holmes.
