Elgie May Watson, 77, of Oark died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Countryside
Manor Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late George Tommy and Ethel Simmons Young,
widow of Clay Watson, Baptist, and was preceded in death by one son,
Hartsel Watson.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Joe Wood of
Oark and Lorene and Joe Clark of Winslow; one brother and
sister-in-law, Olen and Grace Young of Deer; eight grandchildren; and
14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Mossville Church
with Rev. George Farquhar officiating.
Burial will be in Mossville Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox
Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Gary Clark, Kelly Tenison, Gary Young,
Travis Wood, Eddie Skaggs, and Joe Wood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Wood, Doug Pelfrey, Tracy Jones, Joe
Clark, Bart Ledgerwood, Don Smith, and Tommy Young.
Larry James Smith, 28, of Lamar died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, from
injuries sustained in a shooting incident near Knoxville.
He was an iron worker and was preceded in death by one sister, Lisa
Shepherd.
Survivors include his widow, Angel Smith; two sons, Jamie Smith and
Jaxon Smith, both of the home; mother and stepfather, Linda and Mike
Shepherd of the Flat Rock Community; father, A. V. Smith of
Lutherville; one sister, Tammy Shepherd of the Flat Rock Community; two
brothers, Jody Smith of the Flat Rock Community and Michael Shepherd of
Crested Butte, Colo.; and grandparents, Harvey and Faye Severn of
London.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with
Rev. Mike Payne officiating. Burial was in Hess Cemetery near Coal Hill.
Active pallbearers were Jody Smith, Michael Shepherd, Tammy Shepherd,
Jimmy Butler, Andy Butler, Daniel Dunlap, James Callahan, and Rowdy
Hodges.
Lois Gross, 80, of Conway, grandmother of Rhonda Hampton of London,
died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Heritage Living Center.
She was a native of Hector, former resident of Russellville, daughter
of the late William Cody and Maudie Loutilda Shuffield Heathcock, widow
of Boyce E. Gross, a Free Will Baptist, and was preceded in death by
one daughter, Donna Duvall; and two brothers, Glen and James Heathcock.
Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Esther Gross of
Conway; two other grandchildren, Ronnie Duvall of Dardanelle and Jason
Gross of Conway; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Rest
Haven Memorial Park in Russellville with Rev. Freddie Goates
officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shinn Funeral
Service.
Thelma Jones Jenkins, 93, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003,
at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a native of Plainview, daughter of the late William Marion and
Sarah Myrtle Darter Jones, widow of I. W. Jenkins, graduate of Ola High
School, retired co-owner of Nu Frocke Shoppe, member and Sunday school
teacher at First Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by two
sisters, Mable Randall and Ruby Nell Dennis; and one niece, Susan
Randall.
She is survived by one niece, Patti Davis of Clarksville; one
great-niece, Amber Davis of North Little Rock; one great-nephew, Ashley
Davis of Clarksville; and one great-great-nephew, Ashton Davis of
Clarksville.
Varnelle Carter Smedley, 98, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 4,
2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Clarksville, daughter of
the late Frank C. and Etta Ray Carter, widow of Leo Smedley Sr., and
was preceded in death by one son, Leo Smedley Jr.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Anna Smedley of Clarksville; two
brothers, Joe Carter of Clarksville and Roy Carter of Ridgecrest,
Calif.; two grandchildren and spouses, Beverly and Clyde Eubanks of
Fayetteville and Gary and Linda Smedley of Rogers; and four
great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Roller-Cox Chapel with
Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
