Earline F. Franklin, 88, of Fort Smith, formerly of Coal Hill, died
Monday, July 29, 2002, in Fort Smith.
She was an artist, accomplished musician, lifetime member of the Coal
Hill Presbyterian Church, daughter of the late Edward M. and Maud Smith
Fry, and widow of Charles L. Franklin.
She is survived by one sister, Emily F. Griffith of Fort Smith; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the Coal Hill Cemetery with Rev. Burley King officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Edward Quitman Poynor, 79, a native of Clarksville, died Friday, July
26, 2002, at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, N. M.
He was a retired pharmacist, member of the First Presbyterian Church
and the Clarksville Country Club, U. S. Army veteran having served during
World War II and the Korean War, attended the University of the Ozarks
and graduated from Southwestern College of Pharmacy in Weatherford, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Poynor; and one sister, Susie
Maude Pittman.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Ann and Herbert
H. Bassett of Albuquerque, N. M.; one sister, Louise Spanke of Wheaton,
Ill.; and four nieces and nephews.
The body was cremated. Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m.
Friday, Aug. 2, at Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville with Rev. Lance Jones
officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Direct Funeral Services
of Albuquerque, N. M.

Ella Cotton Reed, 88, of Clarksville died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in
Dardanelle Nursing Home.
A native of Moffett, Okla., she was a daughter of the late Willie Cotton
Sr. and Lillie Patterson Cotton, widow of William David Reed Sr., and a
member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Lilene Perry of Clarksville; one son
and daughter-in-law, William David and Eula Reed of Dardanelle; two adopted
sons, Carl Lee Cotton of Clarksville and Charles Cotton of Fort Smith;
two sisters, Lois Wrye and Shirley Alston, both of Clarksville; two brothers,
C. H. Cotton of Fort Smith and Leroy Cotton of Clarksville; four grandchildren,
Glenn Reed of Little Rock, David Reed of Russellville, and Thomas Perry
and Sarah May, both of Clarksville; eight great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel
with Rev. Charlie Wells officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Glenn Reed, David Reed, Thomas Perry, Tyrone
Perry, William Cotton, and William Brockman.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Willie Perry, K. P. Heidleberg, Clarence May, Sam Scott, Claude May, Patrick Baker, and Allen Ray Chenault.
Edna Faye Sexton, 78, of DeSoto, Mo., died Friday, July 26, 2002, in
DeSoto, Mo.
A native of Coal Hill, she was a daughter of the late John William and
Minnie Lee Luman, widow of Earl D. Sexton, and was preceded in death by
one brother, Gene Bullard; and three sisters, Ruby Lundry, Irene Marvel,
and Viola Roberts.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda Rencenhausen, Kathy Sampson
and Sonia Waggoner, all of DeSoto, Mo.; three sons, Bill Sexton and John
Sexton, both of Hillsboro, Mo., and David Sexton of DeSoto, Mo.; one sister,
Maize Sparks of Santa Anna, Calif.; one brother, William Bullard of Pine
Bluff; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Mahn Funeral Home in DeSoto, Mo., with Rev. Tim Wooten officiating. Burial was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, Mo.
Morgan James Howard, 87, of Clarksville died Wednesday, July 24, 2002,
at his home.
He was a native of Spadra, son of the late Jim and Rose Ladd Howard,
member of Coal Hill Masonic Lodge No. 383 for 50-plus years, coal miner
for 17 years, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his widow, Mary Bohannon Howard; two daughters and
one son-in-law, Sonya and David Harp of Fort Smith and Jane Howard of Clarksville;
three sons and daughters-in-law, Morgan Earl and Lynnell Howard and Wendell
and Vicki Howard, all of Clarksville, and Bruce and Debbie Howard of Burk
Burnett, Texas; one sister, Mattie Shaffer of Clarksville; ten grandchildren;
and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 6 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the
Spadra Cemetery with David Harp officiating. Arrangements were under the
direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Link Childers, David Harp, Douglas Harp, Jeff
Howard, Matthew Howard, and Mark Howard.

Mozelle O'Neal, 75, of Sallisaw, Okla., died Sunday, July 28, 2002,
at Sallisaw, Okla.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Monroe Leslie
(Buddy) Johnson and Robbie Blackburn Johnson, graduate of Clarksville High
School, former dental assistant, former ward clerk at Sparks Regional Medical
Center, and member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Okla.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Reggie and Melinda O'Neal
of Sallisaw, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Zelinda and Donnie Baker
of Fort Smith and Debbie and Warren Thompson of Van Buren; one brother
and sister-in-law, Lynville and Margaret Johnson of Clarksville; stepmother,
Mildred Johnson of Clarksville; seven grandchildren, Lorrie Smith, Chris
Baker, Bryan Whittmore, Andy Iames, Justin Iames, and Lindsey and Micah
O'Neal; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Sallisaw City Cemetery
Gazebo with Rev. Jason Helmbacher officiating. Burial will be in Sallisaw
City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw, Okla.

Ocie M. Walter, 88, of Clarksville died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at
Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late George C. and Nora Callahan, widow of
Charles A. Walter, member of East Mt. Zion Trinity Baptist Church, and
was preceded in death by one son, L. D. Bales.
Survivors include one daughter, Thelma L. Clark of Clarksville; two
sisters, Corene Yardley of Jacksonville and Jo Drennon of Leavenworth,
Kan.; two brothers, Gerald Callahan of Jacksonville and James Callahan
of Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Linda A. Whitson of Clarksville
and Elizabeth Bellar of University Place, Wash., Larry W. Hood and John
M. Hayes, both of Clarksville, Nick E. Clark of Indianapolis, Ind., and
Larry D. Bales, Greg Bales and David Bales, all of Seagrove Beach, Fla.;
20 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Private services and burial were at East Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
