Barbara Elaine Carter, 58, of Scranton died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at
her home.
She was a daughter of the late Audie G. and Grace B. Clayborn Melson,
1961 graduate of South Bend Central High School in South Bend, Ind., receptionist
and office employee, and was preceded in death by one brother, Arnold Melson.
Survivors include one daughter, Karla Hayes of Ventura, Calif.; one
son, Johnny Hayes of Hunt; two sisters, Georgia Hubbard of Tampa, Fla.,
and Wanda Colburn of Mishawaka, Ind.; three brothers, Curtis Melson of
Rawlins, Wyo., Donald Melson of Thornton, Colo., and Ronald Melson of Tampa,
Fla.; two grandchildren; and special friend, Jerome Geels.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton with Father Placidus Eckart officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Elaine Louise Smith, 58, of Ozone died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at her
home.
She was a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., daughter of the late Louise
Calvert Weaver, and member of Ozone Full Gospel Church and Mt. Vernon Extension
Homemakers Club.
Survivors include her husband, Al Smith; father and stepmother, Paul
and Romaine Weaver of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Lois Duncan of Alaska
and Pat Brownelwell of Pennsylvania; and five brothers, Robert Weaver,
Dan Weaver, and Don Weaver, all of Pennsylvania, Mike Weaver of Tennessee,
and Jim Weaver of Alaska.
Funeral was Saturday, May 18, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev.
Charles Boone officiating. Burial was at Russell Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harley Sinor, Pat Hyland, Matthew Hyland, Jim Beattie, Jerry Whorton, and Claud Batman.
Helen Ann Karnell, 81, of Clarksville died Wednesday, May 15, 2002,
at Crawford Memorial Hospital.
She was a Catholic, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Mygygzyn Mliczek,
widow of Fredrick (Fritz) Karnell, and was preceded in death by one son,
Michael Anthony Karnell.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Victoria Mary and Charles
L. Roberts Jr. of London; one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gunnar
(Celeste L.) Karnell Jr. of Sharpsville, Pa.; one sister, Sally VanZandt
of Morristown, N. J.; and three grandchildren, Fredrick G. Karnell III
and Matthew Karnell, both of Philadelphia, Pa., and Charles L. Roberts
III of London.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church
with Father William Wewers officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral
Home.

John Julius Giacoletto, 72, of Clarksville died Sunday, May 19, 2002,
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a mechanic, truck driver, Army veteran, and son of the late Julius
and Josie Osborn Giacoletto.
He is survived by three daughters, Sue Henry of Bennington, Kan., Helen
McClanahan of Salina, Kan., and Bobbie Townsend of Wyoming; one son, Jeffrey
Giacoletto of Salina, Kan.; four sisters, Angie Davis, Georgia Griffith,
and Pat Allred, all of Clarksville, and Mary Chapman of Challis, Idaho;
one brother, Jim Giacoletto of Pittsfield, Mass.; five grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Jamestown Assembly
of God Church with Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.
Burial will be in Carter Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox
Funeral Home.

Mary Helen Bean Crowden, 73, of Lamar died Wednesday, May 15, 2002,
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Audie Raymond and
Mary Alice Sain Bean, retired emergency room manager at Johnson Regional
Medical Center where she was employed for 17 years, past president and
vice president and current treasurer of Johnson Regional Medical Center
Auxiliary, mayor of Lamar from 1968-70, currently serving a second term
as a Lamar alderman, active member of Lamar Baptist Church, and known for
her many years of service and volunteerism to the youth and adults of Lamar
and Johnson County resulting in the Lamar Little League Ball Park being
named in her honor, the Mary Crowden Park, on Friday, May 10.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ira and Eddie Bean; and one
sister, Archie Lee Bean.
Survivors include her husband, Issac Richard (Buster) Crowden Sr.; two
daughters, Phyllis Dillard of Lamar and Reda Jackson of Powell, Mo.; two
sons, Richard Crowden Jr. and Alan Crowden, both of Lamar; five sisters,
Savelle Schrock of Russellville, Rena Dale of Flat Rock, Joan Clark of
Clarksville, Lela Freeman of Longview, Wash., and Sallie Ryan of Kelso,
Wash.; five brothers, Inrey Bean and William Arlon Bean, both of Lamar,
David Lee Bean of Crescent City, Calif., Glenn Bean of Kelso, Wash., and
Gale Bean of Kalama, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Sally Lemaster Litteral, 59, of Knoxville died Thursday, May 16, 2002,
at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a native of New Holland, Ohio, daughter of the late Dallas and
Meneda Hatfield Bellar, and widow of Shelvie Lemaster.
Survivors are one daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Thomas Killough
of London; three sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Mary Lemaster and
Roy and Lynn Lemaster, all of Knoxville, and Danny and Andrea Lemaster
of Clarksville; 13 grandchildren and spouses, Melissa and Jeremy Daniels
of West Liberty, Ky., Jeremy and Gina Caudill of Paintsville, Ky., Tracy
Caudill of London, Justin and Jet Lemaster of Knoxville, Kevin, Andrew
and Max Lemaster of Clarksville, Natascha, Brooklyn and Shanadoah Lemaster
of Knoxville, and Shelvie and Ashley Lemaster of Livingston, Texas; three
great-grandchildren, Jacob, Andrea and Courtney Caudill of Paintsville,
Ky.; and friend, Geraldine Oles.

with Rev. Ira Taylor officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park
in Staffordsville, Ky., on Monday, May 20.

Wanda (Jella) Rogers, 69, of Clarksville died Wednesday, May 15, 2002,
at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late Gomer and Beulah
Carter Farris, graduate of Clarksville High School, and member of the First
Baptist Church.
Survivors are one daughter, Connie Rogers Lee of Clarksville; three
sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim and Nancy Rogers, Jack and Dolores Rogers,
and Robert Rogers, all of Clarksville; three sisters, Juanita Vaughn of
Fayetteville, Wanda Faye Castleberry of Lamar, and Becky Dougan of Clarksville;
and five grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with
Rev. Billy Usery officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
