Eugene H. Strackbein, 66, of Hartman died Monday, May 6, 2002, at his
home.
He was a son of the late William A. and Selma Anderegg Strackbein, retired
from the Air Force, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Strackbein
and Gilbert Strackbein.
Survivors include his widow, Nancy T. Sanders Strackbein; four daughters,
Nancy Singleton of Miami, Fla., Kathy Dodge and Dr. Jeanne Strackbein,
both of Clarksville, and Lynn Moczygenba of San Antonio, Texas; two sons,
Russell Bellinger and Wade Bellinger, both of Hartman; one sister, Opal
M. Harper of Harper, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Terry Singleton officiating.
Flois Wish Smith, 72, of Clarksville died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at
Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late J. C. and Loda
Cecil Wish, graduate of Clarksville High School, member of the First United
Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by one sister, Lorraine Wish
O'Neal.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn (C. J.) Smith of Benton; two
sons and daughters-in-law, John Allen and Geneva Smith of Clarksville and
Grant and Penny Smith of Russellville; two grandchildren and spouse, Jevin
Allen Smith of Little Rock and Elizabeth and Josh Bruins of Fayetteville.
Graveside services and burial were at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
John Arthur Davis, 64, of Mountain Home, formerly of Clarksville, died
Friday, May 3, 2002, at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home.
A native of Coal Hill, he was a son of the late John and Violet Hammonds
Davis, 1957 graduate of Clarksville High School, lifelong resident of Arkansas
having moved from Little Rock to Mountain Home in 2000, and vice president
of computer operations for Regions Bank of Little Rock.
Survivors include his widow, Dorothy Allison Davis; one son and daughter-in-law,
Shane and Lara Davis of Mountain Home; two grandchildren, Jacob Shane Davis
and David Stout, both of Mountain Home; two brothers and one sister-in-law,
Sam and Carlynn Davis of Bryant and Jimmy Davis of Virginia Beach, Va.;
three nieces, Debbie Leigh of Park City, Utah, Melissa Graves of Clarksville,
and Stephanie L. Edwards of Clarksville; and two nephews, Hunter L. Davis
of Bryant and Tim Schreckhise of Little Rock.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Oakland
Cemetery with Rev. Michael Shy officiating. Arrangements were under the
direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Jack Lax, 80, of Clarksville died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Johnson Regional
Medical Center.
A native of Kim, Colo., he was a son of the late Henry Raymond and Berta
Mead Lax, member of Woodland Baptist Church, member and past president
of the Republican Men's Club and the National Farmers Organization, and
an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his widow, Kathryn Overton Lax; one daughter, Barbara
Eldredge of Clarksville; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Brenda Lax
of Knoxville; three sisters, Lola Bell Weiss of Paris, Texas, Elva Hendricks
of Lincoln, Neb., and Sue Chisum of Vega, Texas; four grandchildren and
spouse, Jacky and Gina Lax of Knoxville, Kim Sarten and Katie Eldredge,
both of Altus, and Felicity Shoeffler of Hartman; and four great-grandchildren,
Andrew Rice, Samantha Childers and Madison Stutzman, all of Hartman, and
Trenton Lax of Knoxville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, at Woodland Baptist Church with
Rev. Mike Sawyer and Rev. Sam Howell officiating.
Burial was in Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral
Home.
Active pallbearers were Ken Childers, Mark Nowotny, Darrell Williams,
Jerry Scoggins, Walter Nowotny, and Harold Pitts.
Honorary pallbearers were Frank Wiser, David Hefley, Jim Patterson,
Reece Hudson, Gene Faulkner, and Dutch Houston.

Janet Sue Oliger, 48, of Lamar died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Everett Riddle and E. Marie Marshall
Sharp of Lamar, waitress-cook, and was preceded in death by one sister,
Rose Marie Riddle.
Among the survivors are two daughters, Terry D. Reed of Lamar and Tanya
M. Williams of Morrilton; one son, Cody Ray Brand of Russellville; and
two grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating.
Pauline Bryson, 99, of Smithville, Texas, formerly of Clarksville and
Lamar, died April 30, 2002, in Smithville, Texas.
Survivors are a grandson, Jay Earl Bryson of Odessa, Texas; granddaughter,
Dana Marie; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, all
of Texas.
Graveside services and burial were Friday, May 3, at Moore's Chapel Cemetery in Waveland with Elder Frank Brown of Clarksville officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.
Palace Lou Cotton, 67, of Clarksville died Monday, May 6, 2002, in Johnson
Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Willie Sr. and
Lillie Patterson Cotton, and member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Lou Cotton of Clarksville; one
son, Richard Cotton of Russellville; three sisters, Ella Reed of Dardanelle
and Lois Wrye and Shirley Alston, both of Clarksville; two brothers, C.
H. Cotton of Fort Smith and Leroy Cotton of Clarksville; and three grandchildren,
Clayton W. Whitaker and Stanley Holt Jr., both of Clarksville and Kelli
Cotton of Russellville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with burial in Oakland Cemetery
