Elmer E. Strackbein

Elmer E. Strackbein, 68, of Hartman died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Fort Smith.

He was an employee of Cecil Hardware, Inc., veteran of the U. S. Air Force, Lutheran, son of the late William and Selma Andregg Strackbein, and was preceded in death by one son, David R. Strackbein.

Survivors include his widow, Patricia Sargent Strackbein; one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl M. and Dean Feikema of Clarksville; one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce J. and Kathy Strackbein of Annapolis, Md.; one sister, Opal Harper of Harper, Texas; two brothers, Gilbert Strackbein of Little Rock and Eugene Strackbein of Hartman; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. The body will be cremated.

The family will receive friends at the home of Dean Feikema at 405 Oak Street in Clarksville following the memorial service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Gisela M. Turner

Mrs. Gisela M. Turner, 66, of Lamar died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at her home.

She was a native of Berlin, Germany, and the widow of Milton Turner.

She is survived by three stepchildren; and one grandchild, Ricky Lee Hawkins of Lamar.

The body was cremated.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Huell Edwin Yandell, 82, of Fayetteville, formerly of Coal Hill, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at his home.

A native of Blue, Okla., he was a son of the late Andrew Lee and Zora Yates Yandell, Navy SeaBees veteran of World War II, retired chief operator with Exxon, member of Hays Chapel Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Yandell Knoblauch.

Survivors include his widow, Wanda Edwards Yandell; one son, Brian Yandell of Fayetteville; two sisters, Vera Moore of Sand Springs, Okla., and Orvetta Carle of Cotter; one brother, Jack Yandell of Highlands, Texas; four grandchildren, Jay Yandell of Fayetteville, Kay Yandell of Ithaca, N. Y., Dennie Knoblauch of New Orleans, La., and Cathy Knoblauch of Albany, La.; and one great-grandchild, Tucker Yandell of Fayetteville.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Rink officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dolan Phillips, Jeep Yates, Dean Phillips, Ross McCarley, Bentley Yates, and J. D. Yates.

John David Morris, 50, of Hartman, formerly of North Little Rock, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at his home.

He was a native of Hartman, son of the late John H. Morris, graduate of Hartman High School and Arkansas Valley Technical School, former resident of North Little Rock, attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, employee of the North Little Rock Housing Authority and member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Little Rock.

Survivors include his mother, Alma Morris; four sisters, Linda Easter of Pelsor, Mona Townsend of Redfield, June Moore of Tucson, Ariz., and Estel Hook of Tempe, Ariz.; one brother, Paul Morris of Jacksonville; four nieces; and seven nephews.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock with Dr. Rex Horn officiating.

Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Hartman Cemetery with Rev. Clyde Vire officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Jay Atkins, Jerry Brockington, Don Breshears, Tim Snipes, David Chumley, and Royce Pennington.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1000 Bishop, Little Rock, AR 72201, Hartman Baptist Church, or the Johnson County Health Department Hospice Program.

L. D. Elder, 72, of the Barnes Community, brother of Hazel Kreipke of Clarksville, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at his home.

He was a native of the Barnes Community, son of the late Tom and Carrie Plymale Elder, retired from the U. S. Forest Service after 33 years as a heavy equipment operator, and was involved in fighting wildfires, construction, park maintenance and rock work. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Don Elder; and two sisters, Nona Murphy and Shirley Phillips.

Other survivors include his widow, Mary Lucille Brown Elder; one daughter, Hilda Daugherty of Van Buren; two sons, Lionel Elder and Luther Elder II, both of the Barnes Community; four brothers, Eugene Elder and Frank Elder, both of Ozark, Bobby Elder of Washington, and Charley Elder of Magazine; and three grandchildren, Hallie, Melinda and Aaron Elder, all of the Barnes Community.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. C. G. Fisher and Rev. Jim McElhaney officiating. Burial was in Gar Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim Johnson, Wesley Williamson, Don Hardcastle, Bob Kinney, Robert Elder, and Larry Elder.

Luther Edward (Creepy) Hodge, 74, of Clarksville died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Bauxite, son of the late Luther Edward and Callie Ann Lee Hodge, attended public schools in Bauxite and El Dorado, served in the U. S. Navy as a radioman aboard the USS Crockett in the Asian Theatre of War and the Korean War, a 1951 graduate of The College of the Ozarks School of Pharmacy in Clarksville, and former owner of White Drug Store in Clarksville. He was also a former owner of drug stores in Morrilton, Harrison, North Little Rock, Hot Springs and Paris and in 1972 purchased McAnally's Shoe Store and the Ben Franklin Store in Clarksville.

He was a past president of the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Council, The College of the Ozarks Alumni Association, and the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy, and was the recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Award in 1969 for outstanding community service, the Arkansas Pharmacist of the Year award in 1974 and The College of the Ozarks Alumni Association achievement award.

Hodge was a member of the board of directors for the Southern Christian Home in Morrilton, the development council of Harding University, the National Speakers Association where he began the "Three Unusual Days" ministry in 1981, a Church of Christ minister having preached for churches in Hagarville, Clarksville and Coal Hill, a deacon in the Church of Christ in Clarksville, and was involved in mission work in Quatemala, Panama, Honduras and Peru.

Survivors include his widow, Aimee Hodge; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Alice Hodge of Hagarville and Craig and Sandra Hodge of Clarksville; one brother, Jack Hodge of El Dorado; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three foster daughters, Dora Faye Fryer of Atkins, Barbara Phillips of Springfield, and Joanne Cook of Little Rock; and four foster grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Clarksville Church of Christ with Jack Farber and Eddie Cloer officiating.
