In response to attacks: Services held, JPs approve a resolution
Local voices were added last week to the worldwide chorus reacting to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center in New York City.
Those voices were raised in a meeting of the county Quorum Court and two special ceremonies with patriotic themes.
On Friday Sept. 21, the 12-member Quorum Court, meeting in special session in Paris, passed a strongly-worded resolution condemning the attacks
On Sunday, Sept. 23, on the Logan County Courthouse lawn, a memorial service was held. It was organized by emergency services and police personnel and fire fighters. Between 250 and 300 people attended.
In between those two events, on Saturday, Sept. 22, local Vietnam veterans and others participated in a Courthouse lawn ceremony marking POW-MIA Recognition Day.
The Sunday ceremony was organized to honor emergency services personnel who perished when the twin towers of the World Trade Center collapsed after being struck by jet airliners.
