In the O.T. even the octogenarians were called "Children", and when Jesus called his listeners 'salt' and 'light', he was using symbolic metaphors. Webster says a metaphor is "a figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another, by way of suggesting a likeness or analogy between them".

The metaphor isn't literal. Jesus emphasized how God was "Father" to him, so it may come as a surprise to some how God is also a "husband". Jesus as 'bridegroom' takes on more meaning then, doesn't it?

Jesus is the Lamb as well as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Satan is a serpent (snake in the grass, maybe?) and that's not the end of it: We (the church) are lambs, trees, and horses, and the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus "as a dove".

The BIRD analogy is used in both the Old and New Testaments:

"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler." Ps91:4

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!" Matt23:37

The seed principle is first seen in Genesis 1:11 and 1:12 -- "..the tree yielding fruit whose seed was in itself". We have to make the connection that Jesus is "the Word" and the Tree of Life and "the Seed" in order to arrive at the logic of how God the Father has sent his son, his WORD and his "seed" to be our Saviour!
