Putting two and two together is what we all like to do,
To some the answer's four, and to others twenty-two.
The acrostic number 22 is somewhat like a veil,
When letters of the alphabet are used to tell the tale.

ACROSTIC POETRY IN THE BIBLE

The Old Testament is in the Hebrew language using their 22 letter alphabet beginning with the 'aleph' and ending with the 'tav'. The acrostics based on this alphabet will naturally be different from the 24 letter Greek "Alpha and Omega" of Rev1:8,11.

In the common form of acrostic found in Old Testament Poetry, each line or stanza begins with a new letter of the Hebrew alphabet in order. This literary form may have been intended as an aid to memory, but more likely it was a poetic way of saying that a total coverage of the subject was being offered -- as we would say, 'from A to Z.'
Acrostics occur in Psalms 111 and 112, where each letter begins a line; in Psalms 25, 34, and 145, where each letter begins a half-verse; and in Psalm 37 and Proverbs 31:10-31. There may be others, perhaps in another style or type of acrostic.

Two principal examples are Psalm 119 where each succeeding letter of the alphabet is used eight times, and the Book of Lamentations where four of the five chapters are acrostic, and chapter three is a triple-acrostic of 66 verses.

Focusing on the 50 chapters of Genesis (Jubile-change) and 22 chapters of Revelation may help to recognize them as "Bookends of the Bible", even though most scholars would hurry to explain that chapters and verses of the Scripture weren't added until at least the 16th century.

The arrangement pattern of the OT is: 5/12/5/5/12 = 39, but in the NT is 4/4/4/5/5/5 = 27; with the five "T" books emphasizing the five crosses at Calvary; like the five chapters in the Book of Lamentations.

The symmetry shown in color above is my own preference, and may be resolved differently.   Please let me know if you have illumination or revelation on this subject..

A Season for Reason

Just in time for Christmas

  Everything's in place..

        Season's Greeting's Everyone

    Until we see His face

            Soon He will be coming..

Christmas Tree who died

How He'll be rejoicing..

Returning for His bride!

      I'm holding Jacobs Ladder tight

        Seeing our elopement night lead

  To honeymoon's delight!

This "acrostic rhyme" is a different style from the alphabet (22 ltr) acrostics found in the Old Testament, but it emphasizes how poetry often requires planning beyond usual writing.

The 22nd generation (father to son) is Jacob, son of Isaac, and that name, JACOB, has led the list of boys names in the USA for 13 years now.
