From pebbles to boulders, from sandstone to granite, from flagstone to gemstone [sedimentary, metamorphic, igneous] -- it's the smooth river-rocks which put me in mind of Genesis 27:11 -- Esau was hairy, but his brother Jacob was "a smooth man". |
God is a Rock - Psalm 18:31 "For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?"
Psalm 78:35 "They remembered that God was their
rock, and the high God their redeemer".
David wrote in 2Sam22:2 "The LORD is my rock,
and my fortress, and my deliverer".
Four (4) kinds of "rock" are found in the Old Testament:
1. In Job 29:6 the rock poured out rivers of oil.
2. In Psalm 81:16 the rock contained honey.
3. Fire came out of the rock in Judges 6:21.
4. The thirsty Israeli's were watered by the rock of Exodus 17:6.
Oil and Honey and Fire and Water! All these from a rock! Yes, of course, it's a poetic metaphoric rock!
What kind of oil do you get from a rock?
Olive Oil, whale oil, Mobil oil ? - I vote for lamp oil; used by the five wise virgins of Matthew 25. Better have some ready when the Bridegroom makes his midnight
announcement.
Could the scripture be talking about the SAME rock?
Could be, since Jesus is the Vine and Lamb and Door and Light and Bread
and Word and Seed, as well as the Son of God. Scripture is our spiritual
bread and Living Water, and sweeter than honey, like in Psalm 19. Paul
wrote that he had fed them with milk and not meat. So the words of
scripture are all of these -- instructions from the Creator of Life! Author of INTELLIGENT DESIGN!
1Corinthians 10:4 - 
"That Rock was Christ!"
Jesus made many "I AM" statements, as we might
expect from the son of the I AM that I AM..
He said "I AM the Living Bread" - John 6:51
He said "I AM the Light of the World" - John 8:12
He said "I AM the good shepherd" - John 10:11
He said "I AM the resurrection and the life" - John 11:25
He said "I AM the way, the truth, and the life" - John 14:6
Funny-peculiar that he never personally said "I AM the Rock"
-- leaving that for Paul to declare in 1Cor10:4, maybe because
he knew it would drive the Pharisees and Sadducees ballistic!
Or maybe it has to do with the "mystery of the gospel" spoken
of in Ephesians 6:19 and 1Cor2:7.

Christ is the Rock !
They say that honey comes from bee's, but the answer's on my tongue;
I get my honey from the Rock! So I'm sure I won't get stung.
The honey that opened Jonathan's eyes has also opened mine,
And the Word of God now tastes so sweet that I crave it all the time.
They say that water comes from rain and that it's mainly in the plain,
but I get my water from the Rock, so I will never thirst again!
It's not the water in the well -- No, this comes from Galilee...
It's been poured out from God above, so naturally it's free!
They say that oil lubricates and it's pumped up from below...
But I get my oil from the Rock -- It's a gusher, that I know!
That old-oil loosened up the flesh and it messed up Aaron's beard,
but you'll need the new-oil for your lamp, when the Bridegroom does
appear!
They say that fire burns and kills -- it's definitely HOT, but
the Word of God tastes extra good with the new-fire from the Rock
Don't let your sacrifice get cold! No, keep it piping hot, 
On the altar for burnt offerings, with fire from the Rock!
(Jesus baptizes with the holy-ghost and with fire! Matt3:11)

"thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it..." Exodus 17:6 KJV "..there rose up fire out of the rock...(after Gideon layed his sacrifice there) - Judg 6:21

Golden nugget! The second Enoch was in the seventh generation from Adam, and the second Lamech was in the ninth generation from Adam, and the second Jacob was in the 63rd generation from Adam. No other 'seconds' occur anywhere in the 66 generations from Adam to Jesus. Isn't that like finding a nugget in the Scripture??
