My Heart: silly couplets and triplets

Once upon a time and very long ago
My heart was very young and it was whole
Back then, it had a strong and steady beat
And did not ever falter, incomplete
And love for me was bold and very sweet
But later, over time, my heart got used
Quite often it was battered and abused
And parts of it were lost, or just confused
And it began to slowly fall apart
This old, decaying, crumbling broken heart
How could I know just where I had to start?
To put it back just as it was before
Was just a much too monumental chore
And so I limped along with it like this
And tried to act like nothing was amiss
Until the day I tasted our first kiss
And to my great amazement and delight
What once had been so wrong was now so right
My poor old heart with broken pieces missing
Was mended--all it needed was some kissing
