Understanding "Above all else, " Jesus said, "get thee understanding." And I have pondered the Lord's words within my heart, If understanding is indeed the place where I must start, If with the knowledge of what others may be thinking And what they feel, and how their lives are spent I come a little closer to that which Jesus meant, Then I will seek with my whole heart to know And to others' words and deeds I will attend Though sometimes they are very hard to comprehend Yet the hardest kind of knowing is within me And while I seek to know the Truth and Truth alone The most elusive of all understanding is my own Why then do I still do the crazy things I do? Why do I think those thoughts that from truth blind me Till I get lost in all the lies and cannot find Me? And so, back on my knees, I cry out once again to Him Who in all Love and Peace and Truth and Life Who is the Word of God, in Whom there is no strife Lord Jesus, You have told us that which we must seek And I come to You, my soul troubled, not demanding But humbly, Lord, I seek YOUR understanding. by Dona Pearson 1/20/2000 Poetry
