"No-Wax Quality"

It has been said that the word "Quality" was derived from the word "Sincere" which is from a Latin word meaning "Without Wax".

The story goes that in ancient times dishonest craftsmen would fill defects in marble carvings with wax giving them a defect free appearance thus, commanding a premium price for their wares. Obviously, in time the wax would decay and fall away revealing the poor workmanship. As a result, buyers of marble carvings began to specify "without wax". And craftsmen began to refer to their work as "Without Wax" implying high quality marble. In time the term "Without Wax" was applied to all merchandise as a proclamation of high quality.

I do not know if this story is really true but it is an interesting bit of trivia that can guide us today. Figuratively speaking we all know when we have to "add wax" to make the job or product appear acceptable and we all know that true quality is "Without Wax" Let's make all of our work shine with "No-Wax Quality"

Quality is more easily observed than defined.

What makes a drawing more than just it's separate lines?
What makes a tower more than separate blocks?
What makes a chain more than it's various links?

It's Quality....
.....or is it?

"Our puppet strings are so hard to see, we perceive ourselves to be free...."

"What if", Mary ask of her good friend Fred, "only one of us could be happy and the other not"?

"I would certainly want it to be you", answered Fred, "for I would be miserable if I knew you were unhappy".

       "And I you", said Mary.

So, Mary and Fred lived in mediocrity ever after.... each afraid that the slightest self-happiness would assure the other had none.

Are Quality and Quantity mutually exclusive? Does mediocre quality performance assure economy?
