Ruth Lindsey

Horace Ruth H. Lindsey, 71, of North Little Rock, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003.

Mrs. Lindsey was born in Guy on Nov. 8, 1931, daughter of the late Alvin and Ruby Gentry Holland.

Mrs. Lindsey helped organize and played in a kitchen band that performed for nursing home residents, and many other occasions in and around Quitman. Over the last few years, she has been an avid volunteer and supporter of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, having made over 1,000 dolls for patients. She organized the NLR Extension Homemakers clubs to make preemie caps and blankets. She was an artist of all kinds. For two years she wrote the column, “Tales of Life,” published in the Cleburne Co. Sun Times.

Mrs. Lindsey is preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Elwood “Woody” Lindsey, and her parents.

She is survived by son, David Lindsey, and wife, Leola, of Atkins; daughters, Beverly Brooks of North Little Rock, and Nelda New, and husband, Max of Conway; sisters, Lea Williams and Dorothy Rollans, both of Little Rock; brothers, Gerald Holland and Lonnie Doss Holland, Sr., both of Quitman; grandchildren, Paul, Jeffrey, and Stephen Lindsey, Adam Brooks, Melissa Herring, and Andrew New; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Caleb Lindsey and Joshua and Bayley Herring; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

There was a gathering of remembrance for Mrs. Lindsey held Tuesday at Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Damascus, with Elders Vernon Lee, Harold Stumbaugh, and James Winston officiating. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery.
