THE WONDER-WORKING POWER OF GOD Ezekiel 37, 39; Acts 1, 2 Kenyon P. Kalvesmaki, Pastor Central Presbyterian Church, Russellville, Arkansas June 11, 2000 The message overflowed into the streets that morning. Nothing would ever be the same. Men and women heard for the first time in their own language speaking of the mighty deeds of God! Pentecost marks the explosion of the Church of the living God, Jesus Christ. From that day until today the living-giving, heart-changing, world-shaking wonder-working power of God has been seen around the world. The symbol of Jesus Christ - His cross - is seen in almost every nation of the world. Translations of the Word of God into different languages have passed 2000. People who never had direction, find themselves in the most challenging places that they could imagine...all because of the wonder-working power of God coming in and filling us with the very person of Jesus! The gospel travels around the world every day through radio, TV, print, and now E-mail and web pages. Who would have thought? Now comes the most amazing part of this story. We are changed and changing right here in the great town of Russellville. Our church breaks into the world with this good news of Christ, by word and deed. No, it’s not the first time that we’ve done anything for anyone. We continue to do things that mark us different from the world. We give Him with love to others...like our new friends in Mexico. Abby and I want you to hear how God worked in some of the lives of our church family. None of us will ever be the same. God never makes mistakes. He lifts up the broken-hearted, and sets the captives free. He takes what looks dead...like those bones Ezekiel describes, and BREATHES HIS WONDER-WORKING POWER into them! I have them before you...not only to bless you...but to challenge you today. If you have been asking God for a sign to get going for Him in your life...pay attention! The wonder of Pentecost....His Church continues to break into lives of people who need Him and are willing to welcome Him! Thanks be to God! |
