School-Based Teen Parenting and Prenatal Progam
The SBTPPP, which began in 1981, provides parenting and prenatal classes for Little Rock School District students attending Central, Hall, J. A. Fair, McClellan, and Parkview High Schools. The program offers:
- parenting and prenatal education classes
- life skills training
- counseling
- advocacy activities
Program Components:
- Education-Students receive parenting and prenatal education and life skills training by The Nurturing
Program for Teenage Parents and Teenage Pregnancy, A New Beginning as core
curricula.
- Counseling/Advocacy-Students are encouraged to develop a plan that outlines their level of functioning,
goal(s) set for the school year and progress toward achievement. Staff is available to provide case
management and crisis intervention services.
- Program Evaluation-Students are given pre and post-tests to determine their knowledge of child behavior
management techniques and high risk parenting attitudes and behaviors.
