| Training Tube for Caged Squirrel |
|
|
In November of 2005, I built a new training tube. I like to use it with young pups (about 3 to 4 months old). I had a tube at my house and sometimes when I turned a dog out they would go to
the tube and bark excessively. I gave it to my cousin. Then I built a squirrel pen that I could put a squirrel in with the pup. I had to put a chain link fence around it to keep the older dogs from tearing it up. It also became almost a nuisance so I let those squirrels out. I can still trap one and put the squirrel in there with a pup if I want.
I hung this squirrel tube away from my house at my shop. I can take the pups there. I think it will not become a attractive nuisance. I like the tube because it makes the young Feists start looking up. This photo shows the house I built for the squirrel. I have a hole in the back of the house so I can force him out if I want him to run the cage.
I think if I were building a cage to work with this is the one I would invest in. I does not cost very much and is easy to build. You can even hang it, just trap and squirrel, put him in it, let the pups chase him in the air, and then let him go.
