| David Shinn Works with Lady and a Trapped Squirrel | |
|
I used a trap and caught one of our back yard squirrels (we have about 8 that live in two den trees and nests). I had taken Lady out to go to the bathroom prior to leaving for Sunday School at 9:30 am and nothing was in the trap. After we returned home from church around 12:30, we had one in the trap. |
I let Lady approach at her pace and start sniffing at the
squirrel. After about 10 minutes, she was a lot more aggressive and barking
at the squirrel. I then had Nathan help me by holding Lady as we went to
the back of the yard.

I set the trap down about 30 yards from any tree. When I let the squirrel go, it headed for one of the den trees. I had Nathan release Lady when the squirrel was about 7 yards away. I was surprised how much ground Lady covered in that short amount of time. |
I
thought she was going to catch the squirrel - which I really didn't want to
happen just yet. The squirrel made it to the tree and went up about 10
feet. Lady circled the tree keeping her eyes on the squirrel. I encouraged
her to "speak" and she barked. She even stood up on the tree a couple of
times looking up at the squirrel. As I circled around the tree, the
squirrel would move to the opposite side, which made Lady keep circling.
She did absolutely perfect!!!! Then it was time for a nap! David Shinn--Sept. 2003 |
