Mr.
and Mrs. Jerry Stanley presented this friendship quilt, a version
of the Dresden Plate pattern, to the Mt. Home
Free Will Baptist Church to preserve and display within the community of
Minnow Creek and in Johnson County. Minnow Creek Church of Christ
is no longer in existence, its members assimulated into other congregations
but many friends and relatives remain in the area.
The
Stanleys, of the Springfield, MO area, purchased the old quilt at a yard
sale and wanted to return it to its home community. Mrs. Stanley traced
the journey of the quilt from its presentation to Rev. Kenneth Tucker and
his wife, Kathryn, in 1935 to their home community of Tuckerman, AR and
from there to Hardy, AR, about 1940. From Hardy, the Tuckers moved to Cleveland,
TN and eventually on to Knoxville, TN. After Mrs. Tucker's death the quilt
was given to her sister, Mrs. Betty Ann Kerr McBride. Mrs. McBride's son,
Hal McBride of Springfield, MO, inherited the quilt after her death in
1950.
