HAGARVILLE CEMETERY [OLD NORTH SECTION] Inventoried by Patricia Rowbotham and Debra Blackard, 16 April 1996 Inventory was begun at the southwest corner with the first identifiable grave. [Other graves have been located since this survey was completed.]

Stewart Family Monument [Tall Gothic pedestal, Inscriptions on three sides, intact:]

West face---Jane, wife of N. Haggard [Born Mar. 12, 1807, Died Sept. 18, 1871]

North face--William A., son of W.A. & S.A. Stewart, born Apr. 4, 1875, died June 24, 1876.

South face--Sarah A., wife of W.A. Stewart, born Jan 12, 1841, died Dec. 7, 1887.

Elizabeth, wife of T.T. Willis, died Jan 21, 185(?)6, aged about 20 years.

Preston M. Bush was born Oct. 3, 1831 and died May 5, 1847 [footstone, lying beside grave] Preston M. Bush aged 16yr 7mo [Scattered remains of crypt-style grave structure of stacked sandstone with a shaped and incised headstone, broken, both old and new breaks] [Cairn rebuilt by E. O. Chronister and son, 1998.)

In Memory of Samuel Towell, born Oct. 13, 1798, died Aug. 5, 1869 [stonemason signature -- M. L. Kelly] footstone, upright, S.T. (Stone on ground, freshly broken into three pieces) (repaired by E. O. C., 1997.)

Eddie Towell, born June 1869, died June 1870, footstone, upright, E.T. (Stone on ground, intact) (reset by E. O. C., 1998.)

Josaphine [sic], wife of I.D. Towell, died May 25, 187_, aged 25 years, footstone, somewhat upright, J.T. (Stone broken into three pieces, all present) (repaired by E. O. C., 1997.)

Isaac D. Towell, born May 8, 1838, died Nov. 18, 1875 (Stone freshly broken into numerous pieces, most present) (repaired by E. O. C., 1997.)

Sacred to the memory of Samuel Gibb Towell, Born February 7th, in the year of Christ A,D, 1850 Departed this life August 30th A,D, 1859 [Stonemason signature -- A, Adkins] (Beautifully carved stone, freshly broken into 5 pieces) (repaired and reset by E. O. C., 1998.)

Sacred to the Memory of Sarah Holly Towell, born March the 7th in the year of Christ A.D., 1846. Departed This Life August 2nd A. D. 1852. [Stonemason signature -- By A. Adkins, _?_ 1st 1854. Footstone, sandstone, hand carved, upright, S. H. T. (This stone was badly damaged by heavy equipment and has been pieced together by E. O. C., 1998/99.)

Peter Cooksey, 5 Aug 1821 - 27 July 1911 Gone but not forgotten (footstone, broken and leaning) P.C. (reset by E. O. C., 1997.)

[In the early 1950's, the gravemarkers of the Hickey and Evans families were moved to a location alongside AR State Hwy. 123 because family members were concerned about the overgrown cemetery. In 1985 these markers were replaced in their previous location to prevent further damage by hwy dept. equipment and the eventual loss of the actual gravesites.]

N. J. Evans, born 25 Nov 1867, died 14 Apr 1902 "She was a kind and affectionate wife, a fond mother and a friend to all." (stone broken and damaged by hwy dept, part of inscription illegible, repaired) (repaired E. O. C., 1997.)

T. D. Evans, born 13 Feb 1853, died 25 Sep 1912 "A loving husband [and] a father dear, a faithful friend hes [sic] buried here. Masonic emblem (stone broken into three pieces by hwy dept) (repaired by E. O. C., 1997.)

Edna, daughter of T.D. and N.J. Evans, born 8 Dec 1893, died 5 Oct 1896 (lamb)

Elza Logan, son of J.[sic]D. and N.J. Evans, born 23 Nov 1885, died 9 Feb 1888 (lamb)

J.R. Hickey, born 14 Dec 1824 [sic], died 26 Oct 1898 (gabled tombstone)

Margaret, wife of J.R. Hickey, born 2 Jul 1831, died 22 Mar 1884 (clasped hands) (Stone broken loose from base, repaired with concrete.)

James Monroe Hickey, as identified by previous readings (hand with index finger pointing up). Stone broken from base, badly eroded and chipped, no longer legible. [New marker] James Monroe Hickey, husband of Dinora Johnson Hickey Partain, 27 Feb 1853 - 18 Mar 1883, Placed by Descendants - 1997.

Alvin H. Hickey, born 19 Aug 1849, died 15 Mar 1912. "Those who knew him loved him best." [New Marker placed by Mr. & Mrs. Bill Weidman, Van Buren, AR, 1997.] Alvin Huston Hickey, 19 Aug 1849 - 15 Mar 1912.
