Ashley Danielle Ralls, 9, daughter of Robbie Ralls of Ozone and Lisa Sparks
Patterman of Lamar, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Arkansas Children's
Hospital in Little Rock.
She was a fourth grade student at Lamar Elementary School.
Other survivors include one sister, Kylia Sparks of Hartman; three brothers,
Daniel Ralls of Ozone, Logan Patterman of Hartman, and Dakota Buford of
Lamar; maternal grandparents, Roy and Betty Smith of Hartman; and paternal
grandparents, Dean and Charlene Baxter of Coal Hill and Dan Ralls of Idaho.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev.
Charles Boone officiating. Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery at Hunt.
Pallbearers were Mike Meek, Greg Patterman, Steve Holt, Doug Carey, Guy
Huff, and Bill Jackson.
Mrs. Bethena B. Bertch, 87, of Clarksville died Wednesday, March 22, 2000,
at her home.
She was a daughter of the late George W. and Paralee Davis Patterson and
widow of Carol M. Bertch.
She is survived by two nieces, Artie Weinman and Ruth Bell, both of California;
and five nephews, Ronald Patterson of Clarksville, David Bankston of Idaho,
Clyde Patterson and Dan Anglin, both of California, and Oran Yates of Hartman.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev.
Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was at West Side Cemetery in Taft, Calif.
George A. Bentley, 90, of Knoxville died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at AMI
St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
A native of Russellville, he was a son of the late Kenneth Edward and Mary
Florence Ferguson Bentley, retired employee of U. S. Steel Corporation
in Orange, Texas, after working as a heavy equipment and crane operator
for many years, member of the International Union of Operating Engineers,
AFL Local 450, and was a member of the Lamar Baptist Church where he was
a former Sunday school teacher for the Adult Men's Bible Class. He was
preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Materne; one granddaughter, Janis
Nova Materne; two brothers, Jimmy Bentley and Emmett Bentley; and one sister,
Edna Mae Medler.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Geraldine C. Bentley; three grandsons,
Michael Roe of Memphis, Tenn., Dan Roe of Knoxville, and Christopher Materne
of Orange, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie Roe of College Station,
Texas, Olivia Roe and Alexia Roe of Memphis, Tenn., James Roe and Jordan
Roe of Knoxville; several nieces; and one nephew.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at Oakland
Cemetery in Russellville with Rev. Mike Fowler officiating. Arrangements
were under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Howard Paul Yates, 63, of Farmington died March 13, 2000, at Washington
Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
A native of Red Star, he was a son of the late John Arvil and Vada Hammond
Yates, a graduate of Oark High School, United States Army veteran, and
a member of the Prairie Grove United Methodist Church and Senior Democrats.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Billie Ratliff Yates; three sons, Jeff
Yates of Houston, Texas, John Yates of Little Rock, and Greg Yates of Atlanta,
Ga.; and one sister, Virginia Hunter of Ozark.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at the Prairie Grove United
Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Sherman officiating.
Burial was in the Radford-Freewill Cemetery near Red Star under the direction
of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Mrs. Irene Faye Koch, 70, of Paris died Friday, March 17, 2000, at St.
Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
A native of Hunt, she was a daughter of the late Joe Elmer and Lucille
Curtis Lewis, widow of George Koch, and a member of the First Baptist Church
of Paris.
She is survived by two daughters, Lajuana Neumeier of Booneville and Ramona
Koch of Paris; one son, Mathias George Koch of Paris; three sisters, Pauline
Phillips, Bernadine Shamblin and Jeroma Willhite, all of Paris; two brothers,
Marion Lewis of Texas and Jimmy Lewis of Paris; six grandchildren; and
one great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, at the First Baptist Church in
Paris with Rev. Tim Prock officiating.
Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery at Paris under the direction of Smith Mortuary
of Charleston.
Mrs. Lowell Askins (Bobo) Higgs, 91, of Clarksville died Friday, March
24, 2000, in Van Buren.
She was a native of the Lone Pine Community, daughter of the late Joe and
Etta Bean Askins, widow of Howe A. Higgs, and a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Clarksville where she worked in the nursery department
for 20 years. She was preceded in death by one sister, Leland M. King;
and one brother, Varnell J. Askins.
She is survived by one daughter, Randa H. Hawkins of Fort Smith; one son,
Kenneth G. Chambers of Van Buren; one brother, Joe A. Askins of La Habra,
Calif.; two grandchildren, Kelley McFerren of Fort Smith and Shelley Webb
of St. Louis, Mo.; three stepgrandchildren, Mike Higgs of Arkadelphia,
Diane Higgs of Long Beach, Calif., and Bill T. Higgs of Pine Bluff; four
great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 1 p.m. Monday, March 27, at Oakland
Cemetery with Burley King officiating. Arrangements were under the direction
of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Menless Winfield, 83, died March 14, 2000, in Monte Vista, Colo.
A native of Ozone, he was a son of the late John and Martha Jane Warren
Winfield, an Army veteran of World War II, member of BPOE Elks Lodge in
Salida, Colo., and following retirement from the Villa Grove Turquoise
Mine and Lone Mountain Mine in Nevada was employed in the raising of Appaloosa
horses and Longhorn cattle. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Grace Barnsley Winfield; one daughter
and son-in-law, Caroline and Dr. Joe Vigil of Alamosa, Colo.; one son and
daughter-in-law, Robert and Michelle Winfield of Gallup, N. M.; three sisters,
Alma Casey of Eureka, Calif., Betty Pitts of Ozone, and Evelyn Bowen of
Clarksville; two brothers, John Winfield of Eureka, Calif., and Omer Winfield
of Sapulpa, Okla.; two grandsons, Jason Robert Menless Winfield of Flagstaff,
Ariz., and Justin Michael Winfield of Gallup, N. M.; and several nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Romero
Funeral Home in Alamosa, Colo., followed by full military honors.

Mrs. Olive Rosetta Patton Lewis, 94, a native of Johnson County, died Sunday,
March 26, 2000, in Mer Rouge, La.
She is survived by two sons, Earnest Doke of Avenger, Texas, and J. C.
Doke of Jones, La.; three daughters, Daisy Farrand of Owasso, Okla., Pauline
Chappell of Corning and Sue Palmer of Benton, Ill.; two brothers, Woodrow
Patton and Raymond Patton, both of Clarksville; two sisters, Edith Dawson
of Clarksville and Mary Hard of Owasso, Okla.; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren;
and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Trinity Chapel in Clarksville
with Rev. Robbie Jackson officiating.
Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery under the direction of Moore Funeral
Home of Owasso, Okla.
Tommy Ervin Owens, 53, of Clarksville died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at
Kingston from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a son of the late Truman Owens Sr. and Aggie Lance Owens, graduate
of Clarksville High School where he played football and baseball, graduate
of The College of the Ozarks and received a master's degree from Arkansas
State University in Jonesboro. He was a a retired coach, counselor and
educator from schools in Forest City, Mountain Home, Marked Tree, and Lamar,
and a member of the Woodland Baptist Church where he was chairman of deacons,
Sunday school director and assistant music director.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Glenda Gail Dennis Owens; one son, Steven
Glen Owens of Clarksville; mother-in-law, Betty Dennis of Clarksville;
two sisters, Wanda Scholtes of Chicago, Ill., and Neomia Louise Wise of
Clarksville; three brothers, Truman Owens of Russellville, James Owens
of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Carl Owens of Berryville; sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Sandy and John Haubert of Clarksville; and several nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Woodland Baptist Church
with Rev. Sam Howell and Rev. Clyde Vire officiating.
Burial will be in Woodland Ceme-

W. T. (Bill) Russell, 62, of Little Rock, formerly of Clarksville, died
Saturday, March 25, 2000.
He was a son of the late Fred and Olive Russell, graduate of Clarksville
High School and the University of the Ozarks, former employee of Orbit
Valve and an employee of Soloman Smith Barney. He was preceded in death
by two brothers, Riddle Russell and Verlin Russell; and two sisters, Helen
Bowman and Freddie Russell.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Colleen Hurst Russell; two stepsons,
Michael Williams and Donald Williams; one stepdaughter, Cheri Casanova;
one sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Cline Berry of Silver City, N.
M.; and four grandchildren, Andrea, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Joseph.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Griffin, Leggett
Healey & Roth Chapel and at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Hardwicke
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery at Clarksville.

Mrs. Zelta M. Caldwell, 81, of Paris, mother of Rev. Carl Sory of Ozone,
died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Fort Smith.
She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Paris, widow
of William (Billy) Caldwell and was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley
Davis.
Other survivors include three daughters, Margie Garrison of New Blaine,
Linda White of Midway, and Jeannie Floyd of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters,
Hazel Gentry of Charleston and Beatrice Caldwell of Mineral Wells, Texas;
two brothers, Otis Davis of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Richard Davis of
Bella Vista; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Roller Funeral Chapel in Paris
with burial in Elizabeth Hall Cemetery at New Blaine.
