Common Senses

Across a wide expanse of sky,
I saw the eagle dive and soar,
And from a distant mountaintop
I heard the summer thunder's roar,
From a cliff above the tallest trees
I felt the kiss of the evening breeze,
In the aftermath of a gentle rain
I smelled the newborn earth again,
Then I tasted the salt of the deepest sea,
The tears I shed when we said goodbye,
Your leaving was always meant to be,
Like the eagle, I wished for you to fly,
You soared to heights of sweet success,
Kissed heaven with your heart and mind,
So I said "goodbye" and I said "God Bless,"
And was reconciled to remain behind.
