Fool's Paradise

There is a lovely island

with glistening, shifting sands

With palms and grasses swaying

To breezes of romance

The water's azure brilliance

Against the ivory beach

Compels me to the shoreline

Where love's just out of reach

I toss aside my garments

And dive into the sea

And swim with all my ardor

To where your craft I see

Out anchored in the harbor

So far from all that's known

I race out there to meet you

I swim, but swim alone

I long to sail the ocean

To view a foreign shore

To taste exotic flavors

To wonder nevermore

I thirst for pleasure's secrets

A hidden rendezvous

I long to feel the passion

I only feel with you

And then the waves close over

In salty tears I drown

Your ship has sailed without me

And I must die alone
